What's all the fuss about? The i0n is the latest in a line of electric shopping carts confirmed for production and edging us closer to the electric reality that seemed nothing more than a silly-looking pipe dream only last year. Plus, Peugeot is trumpeting its 'localised communication unit' technology, which as well as triggering a call to authorities in the event of an accident, allows the car to send data like battery status, mileage and the distance until its next service is due.
What makes it so green? Its lithium ion battery technology means it has a useful range and, of course, doesn't emit any CO2 whatsoever from the tailpipe (notwithstanding arguments about the production of both the cars and the batteries). The technology isn't new necessarily, but the i0n has an impressive 80-mile range and shouldn't be prohibitively expensive when it hits the showroom.
When can I buy one?Spring 2010, but we'll have to wait for exact pricing and specification details, as usual.
